Music at St. John's

"Oh Come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation." Psalms 95:1 (KJV)

Choir Director: Elizabeth Stanley

Organist: Gary L. Blickhan

Gary L. Blickhan is an accomplished organist and composer.  Having composed almost two hundred songs and counting, Gary favors the parishioners of St.John's with his original music during preludes and postludes.

Gary has been a Certified Public Accountant with Gray Hunter Stenn LLP for over ten years.  He is also the president of the Quincy Chess Club as well as the treasurer of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association.

There are many ways to make a joyful noise at St. John's.  Whether you sing or play an instrument, there is a place for you here.

The St. John's Choir leads the congregation in singing hymns during the choral mass on Sundays as well as during holy day masses.  The choir also performs a variety of sacred music ranging from classical works by J.S. Bach to John Rutter to the more contemporary worship style of artists like Michael W. Smith.   We are always looking for new choir members, so if you like to sing alto, soprano or even just in the shower, please contact Elizabeth or Bishop Strawn.

We are currently seeking new choir members!  Please share your talent!  Please contact Elizabeth Stanley or Bp Strawn if you are interested.

Consider the advantages available only to choir members:

A)    They know in advance what hymns will be sung.

B)     They have a front row seat and can check up on who didn’t show up for Mass or what so and so is wearing.

C)     They don’t have to worry what to wear as their choir vestments will cover all. One could conceivably wear pajamas as long as they didn’t mind going to Fellowship Hour dressed that way.

And finally, best of all, you can give back to God what he has given you and worship Him with a joyful noise! Andrea Biesterfeld & Liz Alberson playing a duet

We also welcome instrumentalists for special music.  Please contact Elizabeth Stanley if you would like to share your musical talent in this area.
